The Water Power

It’s summer in America, Europe, and anywhere else above the equator. One of the most dangerous consequences of a hot summer is dehydration. Dehydration is more than just the loss of water; your body also loses electrolytes, especially sodium, leading it to a state of decreased blood volume.

Mild symptoms are fatigue, inability to concentrate, leg cramps, visual snow, dizziness, irritability, nervousness, and headaches. Severe symptoms are deliriousness and even death; needless to say that dehydration is a serious matter and in extreme cases requires immediate medical attention.

One of the reasons why people become dehydrated is because with today’s busy schedules and media interruptions, many have “taught” themselves to ignore their body’s thirst signals. Let’s face it, though, being thirsty means that your body is already dehydrated. Other causes are vigorous exercise, especially in hot weather (whenever exercising in hot weather, always drink water), diarrhea, vomiting, fever or excess sweating.

“Thirsty Water”

Most public water supplies carry hazardous contaminants, such as disinfectants, fluoride, and pharmaceutical drugs, to name a few. Water needs to become your beverage of choice if you want to be healthy, but tap water is not an option and people have become aware of this. That is why so many buy bottled water, have a built-in filter in their kitchen sink, or use small filtering systems such as Brita® or their competitors. However, when water goes through a filtration or distillation process, it also loses its minerals, which remain in the filters or, in the case of distilled water, evaporate altogether. Upon drinking it, instead of hydrating, the water acts as a magnet, removing already-existing minerals in the body. This is known as “thirsty water.”

A few ways to address this problem is to incorporate trace minerals, always organic, or Celtic sea salt and electrolytes into the water. Trace Minerals from marilynfarms.com is a great choice for minerals, and E-Lyte, a BodyBio product, is a great choice for electrolytes. At first, it tastes horrible, mainly because your body is so depleted that it almost rejects anything that is not flat, unflavored water. Once your body builds up on electrolytes and minerals, the flavor goes away and you begin craving it. If you simply cannot stomach the taste in the beginning, add lime juice and a pinch of cayenne.

Ozone Water

There is emerging knowledge, after years of research, about the healing properties of ozone. The list of benefits is simply amazing, especially as a bactericide, however, the jury is still out on ozonized-water systems. In the mid 1970’s, a small water-ozonizing filter became very popular in Brasil. A current version is still sold over there; it takes the water through a filtering process that utilizes a filtering cloth, dolomite, quartz, carbon activated with colloidal silver, and polypropylene fiber. To ozonize the water, the user presses a button that activates the “venturi” system, a process that generates the O3 ozone molecules by adding one O to oxygen. The ozone molecule immediately mixes with the water. The ozonized water is supposed to give you energy, eliminate bad bacteria and cleanse your system.

Some experts recommend that you drink ozonized water every morning, upon waking up on an empty stomach. They claim that this daily intake will wipe out bacteria, candida, help clean up your system and add ozone to the body.

Reverse Osmosis and Deionized Water

This process removes dissolved salts, nitrates, heavy metals, chemical pollutants, pesticides, plus harmful waterborne bacteria and viruses. There are a few systems that can be purchased. One of the best ones is called BEV Water from Pure Water Systems, meeting high standards of purity and bio-compatibility according to the BEV measuring system. BEV stands for “Bio Electric Vincent,” after French Professor L.C. Vincent, who developed the device to measure bio-compatibility in drinking water.

Although reverse osmosis and deionization systems usually remove all or most minerals from the water, the benefits of pure water, free from toxic heavy metals such as arsenic and cadmium, both linked to chronic diseases and cancer, far outweigh the lack of minerals and slightly acidic pH. And as explained above, you can always add those elements back in.

Alkaline Water

Beyond water filtration, distillation, reverse osmosis, and the ozone process, there’s also the alkaline versus acidic water issue, in other words, the pH balance of the water. Health claims about alkaline water are being made online, but most of them are not yet fully verified. Water’s regular pH is usually between 6 and 8. Water systems that increase the alkalinity of your water can be found online, and even the BEV water system has added a device to this effect. However, the simplest solution to have your body’s blood flow become less acidic is to simply drink a large glass of warm water with fresh juice from one or two lemons, first thing in the morning.

How will you know if drinking lemon water in the morning is being effective? Use body pH balance test paper to measure the acidity or alkalinity values of your urine and saliva. Most health food stores sell this small kit or you can click on the link and buy it on Amazon. The best time to obtain accurate results is by testing your saliva or urine for pH first thing in the morning. To perform the test, work up some saliva in your mouth, swish it around, and spit it out or swallow it. Then, work up some more saliva and simply wet the test paper with a little saliva. To test the urine, collect a small amount while in midstream in a small disposable cup. Dip in the tip of the strip of test paper in the urine. Determine your pH by reading the color coded values on the box. If the pH is too acid, add a pinch of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Once the optimum pH level is achieved, you can stop the sodium bicarbonate and continue with the lemon water first thing in the morning.

Living or Artesian Water

This is water that is pure, clean balanced and healthful, not too alkaline nor too acidic, and comes from the purest sources in the earth, even though those are hard to find. Bottled waters are being sold as such, coming all the way from Fiji or as near as Los Angeles. The best way to determine the purity level of the water is to do a bit of research. For instance, Fiji water collects their water straight from the source, in the remote Yaqara Valley on the island of Viti Levu, 1,600 miles from the nearest industrialized country; the spring passes through volcanic rock, which acts a mild filter and adds minerals and electrolytes. Now to truly know the conditions in which this water is delivered inside each bottle, one must visit their plant. According to their website, water is bottled at the source, free from human contact until you screw the cap. If that is the case, then Fiji Natural Artesian Water is a good source of living water.

Containers

Now here comes the potential problem. You have all of this super pure bottled water, or even water that comes from your filtration, reverse osmosis or ozone system. Store it in a plastic bottle and you have just injected toxicity right back into the water, unless the bottle is BPA free—and the jury is still out on BPA-free containers. Even still, you must be careful; if a plastic bottle full of water is left in the sun, plastic particles will melt into the water. For those who travel long distances, keeping water in the car is necessary to avoid dehydration, so here is a tip: get a glass or stainless steel bottle. Never aluminum or plastic.

The Perfect Water

The perfect water should be pure and completely toxic-free, filled with healthy minerals and electrolytes, high alkalinity and stored in glass or stainless still containers.

One healthy solution is to use the BEV water filtration system, add one teaspoon of Celtic salt and two-caps E-Lyte into a 1.5 Liter bottle. And first thing in the morning, add daily the juice of one fresh lemon, and some days cayenne to energize the heart. This solution excludes the ozone process. However, there are other simple means to infuse ozone into your bloodstream with two things to keep in mind: one is that a certified naturopath practitioner is required; two is that you only need it once a week. The application method is through the nose and the ear. The first uses an oxygen tank breathing device that passes through the ozonization machine with olive oil, and you inhale the ozone straight through your respiratory system; the second uses a modified stethoscope that plugs into the ozonization machine, letting ozone flow into your ear. Both methods, although not completely odorless, are painless when properly applied, and require a certified practitioner.

Tasty, Yummy Water

Cucumber-Infused water and honey lemonade are simply delicious and refreshing on hot days. Both take a bit of planning, but they are equal in their simplicity. Homemade lemonade can be as simple as squeezing lemons for their juice, adding some water, and putting in any amount of honey you want depending on how sour the lemons are and how much of a sweet tooth you have. As for cucumber infused water, all you need is a cucumber, one gallon of cold water, and a pitcher. Chop up the washed cucumber, put the slices in the pitcher of cold water, stir, and let it sit for about an hour. Once the water has had time to properly soak the cucumbers, it is ready to enjoy. With your newly acquired knowledge all you have to do is add Electrolytes and Trace Minerals to these recipes, and you will have super healthy, tasty, yummy water!
