Chiropractic Care

by on July 26, 2016

Chiropractic Care has been around for over 100 years, yet many people still are confused about what chiropractic is, why to see a chiropractor and how chiropractic care helps people. Today we are going to look at four of the most common misconceptions people have about chiropractic care.

1. Chiropractic Is Just for Bad Backs

When most people think about chiropractic, they think of someone that is having back pain. But with the upper cervical approach we take at the Licata clinic we have successfully helped people with all sorts of conditions, including sciatica, migraine headaches, acid reflux, vertigo, and more. We’ve also helped many children live healthier lives.

There are also many people who just see us to prevent problems and stay healthy. Many professional athletes, including Tiger Woods, regularly see a chiropractor to keep their body balanced, strong and performing optimally.
2. Chiropractors Are Not Well Educated

Another common misconception is that chiropractors do not have a good educational background. This just isn’t true. After completing undergraduate work, chiropractors go on to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Between undergraduate and doctoral work, a chiropractor graduating from chiropractic school will have had over 8 years of education beyond high school.

Doctors of chiropractic — who are licensed to practice in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in many nations around the world — undergo a rigorous education in the healing sciences, similar to that of medical doctors. In some areas, such as anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, nutrition and public health, they receive more intensive education than their MD counterparts.

In total, the curriculum includes a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience. The course of study is approved by an accrediting agency which is fully recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This has been the case for more than 25 years.

3. Once You See a Chiropractor You Always Have To

I’ve heard this one many times over the years. But the truth is there is nothing about seeing a chiropractor that will force you to keep seeing one. People continue to see chiropractors for their health because they want to, not because they have to.

When you choose to see a chiropractor it is generally because you’re having some sort of a health problem. Those that continue to see chiropractors usually have seen significant results. The problem that they came to the office for has improved or is gone or they have seen all the other benefits associated with chiropractic, such as better sleep, more energy, stronger immune system etc.

4. Chiropractic Care Is Too Expensive

When you compare chiropractic care to variety of other things that we spend money on such as braces for teeth, plastic surgery, LASIK eye surgery, etc. the cost of having a healthy, strong, and mobile spine is a great value.

Chiropractic care has been consistently shown to be cost effective. For example, The Manga Report, a 1993 Canadian government study was quoted as saying:

“There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low-back pain was transferred from physicians to chiropractors… Users of chiropractic care have substantially lower health care costs, especially inpatient costs, than those who use medical care only.”

So if you are thinking about seeing a upper cervical chiropractor, do your own research with an open mind. There is a reason why thousands of people see us. I hope you will choose to experience what chiropractic can do for you and your family.
